About Trentham Running Club

We are hosted by Trentham Rugby Club located on New Inn Lane in Trentham.

Membership of the running club includes social membership of the rugby club and equal use of facilities available including changing and hot showers and a fully licensed bar.

During the week, groups meet at 6.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday evening, whilst on Sunday mornings, there are groups meeting at 9am, 9.15am, and 9.30am. Most of our members take part in the local races, so Sunday groups may be smaller so it's always worth checking in advance who is doing what.

A social drink in the Rugby Club bar always follows training on a Tuesday and Thursday, with many of our members also making use of the bar on non-training nights as well.

Training Groups

We have runners of all abilities and try very hard to ensure everyone is accommodated.

We have a beginners group that will generally consist of 40 to 60 minutes running at 8 to 10 min/mile pace, as well as a steady group. These groups are used to welcoming beginners and will always ensure the group periodically “musters back” to the last runner.

There are also a number of improvers groups that include structured speed/endurance sessions, hill reps, fartlek, sustained runs, etc. The speed and intensity varies from around 8 min/mile to sub-5 min/mile pace. If you're not sure which group is for you – just ask.

Competition

We encourage all our members, regardless of their ability, to take part in team competitions both on the road and cross-country, and our ladies and gents team captains have the responsibility for encouraging members to volunteer for team events.

Locally we support the North Staffs Road Runners Association's league, with several of our members having won awards in recent years. We also enter both male and female teams in the North Staffs Cross Country League, whilst our gents are frequent competitors in the Birmingham Cross Country League. The county, Midland and National Cross Country Championships also feature in the calendar, with a Trentham team often taking part and usually includes a social night out on the town afterwards.

Of course, many of our members also compete individually, whether this be locally or further a field, some of them having success at a variety of races across the country.

Club Competition

The club has its own road championship consisting of two divisions, with prizes being awarded to the first three in each division at the annual awards evening. In order to try and balance out the competition we apply age grading to the results before awarding points. There is also an off-road club championship which is more straightforward. More details and the latest fixture list are available under the Club Championships link.

We also run a club competition for those who run cross-country in the winter, adding yet more interest for our members, whilst more recently, we have introduced the "Trentham Super League" with cash prizes awarded to the top males and females at the end of the year.
